WorldPride Explained
WorldPride is a global event Coordinated by “InterPride” that promotes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender pride issues on an international level through parades, festivals and other cultural activities.
WorldPride is an international LGBT pride event that began in Rome, Italy in 2000 (EuroPride). The host city of WorldPride is selected by InterPride, an international association of pride coordinators, and changes every year.
Programs at WorldPride events are organized by the hosting city’s local pride organization with InterPride and the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA) as part of the rainbow family of organizations.
The first WorldPride was celebrated in 2000 and was held in Rome. Since the first worldpride in Rome 2022, there have been many other celebrations around the globe including: Jerusalem (2005), Madrid (2007), Toronto (2014), New York City (2018).
The program is organized by the hosting city’s local pride organization with InterPride and the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA) as part of the rainbow family of organizations.
InterPride
WorldPride is an international festival and parade that promotes LGBT pride. The event is coordinated by InterPride, an organization whose mission is to unite the global LGBT pride movement and support its members.
As a result of its success and popularity, WorldPride has expanded beyond these large-scale celebrations into smaller events that happen year-round around the world: in New York City’s annual Village Halloween Parade; at Sydney Mardi Gras; and many more local celebrations.
WorldPride 2023 –
Sydney, Australia will be hosting WorldPride in 2023! In February/March 2023, WorldPride will cross the equator to be hosted in a hub of the Asia-Pacific region: Sydney, Australia.
WorldPride is a wonderful event that is celebrated all over the world. It brings together people from all walks of life who want to celebrate their differences. It is an opportunity for everyone to come together and remember we are all human.
